Hozzászóláshoz be kell jelentkeznie! Hi everybody,
I am writing this post because Croatian kiteboarding scene is facing huge challenges and we need your cooperation to keep the Croatian beaches open for kiteboarding.
The sport has grown dramatically in last 2 years with new people coming to the sport. Unfortunately, the number of beaches blessed with wind and perfect conditions for kiteboarding remained the same.
With ever more increasing the number of kiteboarders on the spots, they become more crowded. Not only on the beach itself but also in the sea.
During the last month kiteboarding community is facing HUGE pressure and aggression from the local people (non kiteboarders) on some spots. They started the anti kiteboarding campaigns in national newspapers and local media because of the "dangerous behavior of kiteboardes". They do not approve that kiteboarders are navigating in between the swimmers and that "kites landing on their heads". The fact that kites are taking up the place on some small beaches is also an issue.
And this is very sad that local communities see us in this way.
In few costal communities the tensions are extremely high (some violent threats were already made by the locals) and now is the last chance to avoid unnecessary problems. On some spots we already received some physical threats because of other kiteboarders were riding between children in shallow waters near the beach.
Since Croatian government is not effective in some areas, and they are not imposing any regulation, it is up to us kiteboarders and local community to work out the rules of behavior. Otherwise the spots will be banned for kiteboarding.
And this is something that we must work together.
First of all it is crucial to respect the local communities, place the equipment where it is not imposing any threats to others and stay away from the swimmers when riding. This way we (the kiteboarders) leave the beach open to public and local community.
Second, ask for advice from the local riders. They know what are the local problems. Please respect them!
Third, in some areas regulation is applied to some extent. Please do not challenge it and behave respectfully. We all do not need any further limitations.
Thank you for taking this into consideration. We need your support in keeping the Croatian beaches open for kiteboarding.
If they close the spots we ALL lose, no matter which nationallity.
Thank you for your support in addressing this matter. Please spread this message as far as possible to other fellow kiteboarders.
Kind regards,
Luka Baranovic
